Waseda Oregon Summer Program
July 12 - August 25, 2008


Japanese Language Program

Four Japanese language levels are offered. Students are tested for placement upon arrival at Waseda University. The placement test is required for all students. Approximate course level prerequisites* are:

Level One: at least one semester of college-level Japanese
Level Two: at least one year of college-level Japanese
Level Three: at least two years of college-level Japanese
Level Four: Usually three years of college-level Japanese

*The above are rough guidelines only as Japanese language instruction differs significantly from institution to institution in the United States.

Language Course

Four Comprehensive Japanese classes are offered in addition to over twenty Japanese Language Workshops.

Each participant will enroll in one Comprehensive Japanese course (out of four levels offered), four to seven Japanese Language Workshops (out of 20+ offered) and a required weekend homestay. Therefore, six to nine courses will be on your transcript when you complete the program. The total contact hours are:

Comprehensive Japanese 60 (6 quarter credits)
Japanese Workshop #1 10 (1 quarter credit)
Japanese Workshop #2 10 (1 quarter credit)
Japanese Workshop A, B, C, D, E 50 (5 quarter credits) *You are required to take at least two quarter credits of workshops
Homestay (includes 4 hours of workshops) 20 (2 quarter credits)
TOTAL 120-150 (12-15 quarter or 8-10 semester credits)
